It’s time for some tea. For me, afternoon tea is about indulging in some ‘me-time’ and taking a moment to relax and enjoy some delicate savouries. It’s kind of like a mini special occasion, with a treat. A chance to sit and chat with a friend, read a book or simply enjoy the day with a hot beverage. I realized today, when I wanted to do just that, that I don’t own a proper tea set. And it doesn’t quite feel like a fancy little occasion when you use coffee cups. Time to go shopping.
Here’s what I found so far: I’m leaning towards the black tea set…surprise. All though, the lavender is quite pretty and I like the tea pot that comes with that set a lot more. Decisions, decisions.
The Palm Tree
Palm-tree: single-legged giant,
topping other trees,
peering at the firmament –
It longs to pierce the black cloud-ceiling
and fly away, away,
if only it had wings.
The tree seems to express its wish
in the tossing of its head:
its fronds heave and swish –
It thinks, maybe my leaves are feathers,
and nothing stops me now
from rising on their flutter.
All day the fronds the windblown tree
soar and flap and shudder
as though it thinks it can fly,
As though it wanders in the skies,
travelling who knows where,
wheeling past the stars –
And then as soon as the wind dies down,
the fronds subside, subside:
the mind of the tree returns.
To earth, recalls that earth is its mother:
and then it likes once more
its earthly corner.
- Rabindranath Tagore
Never forget that ‘no’ is a complete sentence.
Just a little reminder that you decide what you want to say yes to. No further explanation needed. It’s okay to walk away from anything that gives you bad vibes. There is no need to explain or make sense of it. It’s your life, do what feels right to you.
The Lover Tells of the Rose in His Heart
All things uncomely and broken, all things worn out and old,
The cry of a child by the roadway, the creak of a lumbering cart,
The heavy steps of the ploughman, splashing the wintry mould,
Are wronging your image that blossoms a rose in the deeps of my heart.
The wrong of unshapely things is a wrong too great to be told;
I hunger to build them anew and sit on a green knoll apart,
With the earth and the sky and the water, re-made, like a casket of gold
For my dreams of your image that blossoms a rose in the deeps of my heart.
- W.B. Yeats
Too often we are afraid of life. Sometimes it’s fear of failure. Other times we anticipate the worst, When we don't know what to expect we say no. And by saying "no" to opportunities and new experiences we reject many of life's great chances. So don’t be afraid. Just say yes.
Did you know researchers pinned down a hormone that is produced when we are hungry that interferes with rationality and decision-making?
You’re more likely to act on impulse when you’re hungry. And each individual can be more or less impulsive depending on the situation. So have a good meal before you make any rash decisions you may regret later. Take your time to analyze the situation and your options. Rushing into things is never a good thing.
“I dreamt we walked together along the shore. We made satisfying small talk and laughed. This morning I found sand in my shoe and a seashell in my pocket. Was I only dreaming?”
- Maya Angelou
Make a conscious choice to understand and use the first day of the week to motivate and inspire the rest of your week. Monday is a day to be grateful to have another week and another day of life.
Take this opportunity to start fresh, set some new goals, and get motivated. You got this!
I usually wear black…shocking, I know. And so, I always try to incorporate unexpected pops of color or patterns or even bling into other areas of my wardrobe. Lately, the husband and I have been attending a lot of evening functions. And of course my go-to is a little black dress - I have many. My favorite accessory is an interesting clutch that’s just big enough to carry my phone, a compact and maybe some lipstick. These are some of the clutches I’m currently eyeing.
Came across these beauties during my afternoon walk. I love flowers. They make me happy. Make time to enjoy the little things. It makes such a difference. 🖤
Happy Monday! You totally got this, and you are going to be just fine. How do I know? I saw a sign.
We all need a reminder sometimes, that not everything is as serious as we think. There are so many times in life when we think that a bit of bad luck is the end of the world. The truth is that every problem has a solution. And you can turn things around if you stay focused and just keep going. What’s important is to live a life you’re proud of. And don’t overthink the little things. I’m sending good vibes out into the world and hoping that you will do the same.
Chrysanthemums are one of my favorite flowers. The Daisy-like pompon symbolizes optimism and joy. In Japan there is a “Festival of Happiness” to celebrate this flower each year. Meanwhile, in some European countries, this flower symbolizes death and rebirth.
Mums are a special favorite for me because we used white mums in the centerpieces for our November wedding. Coincidentally the chrysanthemum is the November birth flower.
Have you ever wondered why flowers are used in almost every social event? Flowers enhance any environment by creating a warm and welcoming ambience. They make you feel lighter and more cheerful. Flowers not only ease inner troubles, they can improve a person’s ability to trust, and even uplift confidence and self-esteem.
So add some flowers to your home and office for some daily visual therapy.
Staying motivated is an easy goal to set. I know, I do it all the time. But staying motivated, that's a whole other story. Staying motivated doesn't just happen. The way to stay on the right path is by being intentional about our behaviors. A lot of times, people often tie motivation to huge goals that are unattainable. What happens is that you use all of your energy to "power through" and all this does is lead to burnout and waning willpower.
The way around this is by being specific and making it a challenge. According to the American Psychological Association, people who set goals that are both specific and challenging, are 90% more likely to achieve what they’ve set their mind to. Setting realistic goals is crucial. And don't forget to celebrate the little wins. By celebrating those little wins, you'll find a much needed daily dose of motivation.
When things get tough, I turn to motivational quotes for a bit of inspiration.
A simple message that someone else believes you can achieve what you want to achieve can be a powerful incentive. If your teacher, coach, or mentor believes you can do something, you’re more likely to do it.
So today, I’m going to take Walt’s advice and start doing what I need to do, to get where I wanna get.
Today is gonna be a great day.
